A thousand years ago, the fjords of Sogn were home to many Norwegian Vikings. These deep fjords were suited for the old Viking ships and created communication lines between the inland Norway and the world. The local Viking chiefs became powerful, but with their wealth and power unrest and war followed. Important battles took place between these steep mountains. It was feuds, but also the strive for new adventures, that drove the first Vikings from the Nærøy fjord towards the west, to populate Island.
Imagine the possibility to experience how the life of the Vikings was. You can join us on a proper Viking journey and travel back to the days of the Viking era, when the sagas were born. The journey starts at a Viking camp in the mountains and goes Viking style over the mountains, down to the fjord, where we travel in a Viking ship to the chiefdom of Gudvangen. We dress, and feel like Vikings. On the journey we will meet Vikings that will teach you hunting, fishing and how to use your weapons. You will meet central personalities from the different sagas that will tell you their own story. You spend the night in a simple, yet comfortable Viking tent, and the food is served Viking way; over the camp fire. To get into the deep fjord we row our Viking ship. You will be surprised of how fast and sturdy such a ship is. On arrival at the chiefdom of Gudvangen, it is time for a grand welcoming feast at the table of the chief himself.
The Viking journey will in a fun and interesting way, be an active experience of the history from the old sagas.
